The Governing Council is truly growing into its responsibilities according to our new governance," stated CPSP President Bill Scar, a week after the close of the bi-annual meeting. He continued to say, "We want each of the governing chapters [Chapter of Chapters, Chapter of Diplomates, Executive Chapter] to courageously do their work, knowing that it requires all of us to get the work done.  Yes, there are boundaries between the tasks and authority of each of the governing chapters, and it is sometimes a challenge to keep those boundaries clear while affirming the energy of all of our leaders.  But that is precisely what our CPSP ethic, and our belief in consensus, makes possible.  This most recent GC meeting certainly demonstrated that.  There was debate, strong expressions of feeling, disagreements that will take more time to resolve, and kindness in true measure.  We embraced the best of who we are in the CPSP, and I am resolved to do all I can to keep us moving forward in that spirit."

When asked his thoughts on the governance of CPSP, President Scar stated, "Governance is a challenge, but its sole purpose is to make us more accountable and more effective as a guild of professionals who care for the human spirit.  In my entire career, I have never seen a model that worked better than what we are developing, and I have never seen a model that was more efficient, materially and emotionally.  I want all of our members to remember that we are a “College of” and not an “Association for”.  How we govern should indeed reflect who we are, and if you had been in attendance, you would have seen our integrity of purpose and action, as well as our passion for one another and seeking the best ways to move forward.  These things can look messy, but they are integral experiences, and we can be proud of that.”
